Summer is well on it’s way and we all love the warmer weather. It is a great time to be outside with your pets, so we’ve put together some seasonal top tips to help keep them fit and healthy.
It’s important to ensure you are using adequate flea and tick protection. Check your pet after every walk for signs of any ticks that have taken to hitch hiking on your pet. They can latch on anywhere – around the head, the belly area and in your pets armpits. Be aware fleas can multiply quickly, especially in multi pet households. Ask us in you need advice on the best protection available for your pet.
It is difficult to treat and often fatal. Most dogs do not know when to stop and will keep chasing balls despite becoming over- heated. Use paddling pools and ice cubes in water to help keep them cool. And remember if the pavement is too hot for your bare hand or foot it is too hot for your dog! It is important for your pet’s teeth and gums to be checked regularly to catch any signs of a dental problem early. A healthy mouth usually has pale, pink gums and bright white teeth. Next time your pet is visiting us, ask our team to show you how to check your pets teeth. It is really simple and something to practice on a regular basis at home with your pet.
